VR-P25V – VHF Version

The VR-P25V operates in the 136–174 MHz VHF band. It accepts a typical handheld radio input of 2–6 watts and amplifies the signal to approximately 20–40 watts, depending on frequency, antenna match, and operating conditions. This model must be used with VHF radios and antennas.

VR-P25U – UHF Version

The VR-P25U operates in the 400–470 MHz UHF band. With a typical input of 2–6 watts, it increases output power to approximately 20–40 watts, depending on operating conditions and antenna system. This model is intended for UHF radios and antennas.

Shared Characteristics

  • Designed specifically for handheld radio amplification
  • Supports analog and digital voice modes (radio dependent)
  • Automatic RF sensing (no PTT line required)
  • 13.8 V DC operation
  • Built-in protection against over-temperature, over-voltage, and excessive RF input
  • Rugged metal enclosure suitable for portable, mobile, or fixed use

Modes of Operation

The VR-P25 Series supports three primary modes of amplification, each describing a different way to connect and control the amplifier with a handheld radio.

1. Radio-Controlled Mode

Connect the handheld transceiver’s antenna output to the RF-IN connector on the rear panel of the amplifier using the provided RF cable. Transmit and receive directly from the handheld radio while the amplifier increases RF output power for greater range. Quick and easy for portable deployments.

2. Accessory-Controlled Mode

Connect the handheld radio to the amplifier RF-IN connector and use a speaker microphone, headset, or compatible accessory connected to the handheld. Transmit and receive through the accessory while the amplifier boosts the RF signal. Use with a wireless mic connected to the radio for effortless communications at bases, camps, or around the vehicle when mobile.

3. Amplifier-Controlled Mode

Connect the handheld radio’s antenna output to the amplifier RF-IN connector, connect an accessory (such as a speaker microphone) to the amplifier MIC jack, and connect the radio’s accessory port to the amplifier Control jack. Transmit and receive using the accessory connected to the amplifier, with incoming audio relayed through the amplifier’s loudspeaker while the RF signal is amplified. Ideal for fixed installations in vehicles or boats—dock the radio and keep it out of the way.
